Dr. Shalini Rajapandy

Where It All Began

Fear was where my journey into dentistry began. As a child, I would accompany my father to his dental appointments, standing beside him, tightly holding his hand, overwhelmed by unfamiliar sounds and uncertainty.

At the age of ten, I found myself in the dental chair with a severe toothache, bracing for that same fear. Instead, I was met with calm hands, patient words, and quiet reassurance from a dentist who saw me beyond my anxiety. I walked in afraid and left changed. That experience stayed with me — slowly turning fear into curiosity, and curiosity into purpose.

More About Dr. Rajapandy

A Foundation of Belief

Even before I understood that purpose, my father believed in me. Dentistry was an unfamiliar path in our family, yet he saw in me the ability to care for and comfort others. His unwavering support became the foundation behind every step I took.

Training & Path to Canada

I pursued dentistry in India, where I practiced for four years and built a strong clinical foundation while deepening my understanding of empathy, patience, and presence in patient care. My love for the profession continued to grow, eventually bringing me to Canada, where I earned my DDS degree from the University of Alberta. In many ways, it felt like discovering dentistry all over again — through a new healthcare system, diverse patients, and a renewed sense of purpose.

My Approach to Care

Today, as an associate dentist, I focus on restorative dentistry, including fillings, crowns, and comprehensive treatment planning. I enjoy caring for patients of all ages, especially children and families, because I understand how early dental experiences can shape a person's lifelong relationship with care. My goal is to create an environment where every patient feels calm, heard, and genuinely safe.

Having once been an anxious patient myself, I carry that understanding into every appointment. I take time to listen, explain clearly, and ensure no patient ever feels rushed or dismissed. To me, dentistry is not only about treating teeth — it is about caring for the person behind the

Recognition & Professional Involvement

I am honored to have received the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Award during dental school, and I remain actively connected to the profession through the Alberta Dental Association and the Tamil Nadu Dental Council.

Giving Back

Giving back is also deeply important to me. Through outreach initiatives including Shine Dental Clinic, rural satellite programs in High Level and La Crete, and mission trips, I have experienced firsthand that care extends far beyond the clinic. These experiences have shown me the quiet joy of service — and that often, the person who gives leaves with the fuller heart.

Above All

Above all, dentistry has taught me that behind every smile is a story, and behind every fearful patient is someone who simply wants to feel safe.
