Excellent patient care! Our son, 15 with autism, was treated with respect and patience. He did so well during this visit and the staff were so accommodating and kind. I think they were just as proud of him after his visit as we were! Neither of our kids fear the dentist in the slightest, and I think that says a lot.

Small Appointments. Big Difference.

At La Perle Dental Centre, a checkup isn't just a box to tick. It's how we catch the small things before they turn into big, painful, expensive ones. Every appointment is thorough, unhurried, and ends with a clear, honest conversation about where your health stands and what comes next.

Catch Problems While They're Still Small

Most dental problems don't announce themselves. They build quietly until something hurts, and by then, a simple fix has usually become a bigger one. Coming in regularly is how we stay ahead of that.

We Show You Everything We Find

We use digital X-rays and an intraoral camera at every visit so you can see exactly what we see. No vague explanations, no taking our word for it. You'll leave knowing precisely what's happening in your mouth.

Your Benefits Shouldn't Go to Waste

Most insurance plans cover two checkups and cleanings per year. We direct bill your insurance so there's nothing to pay upfront and nothing to chase. Those benefits expire at the end of the year and don't carry over. Use them.

What We're Trying to Prevent

The most common dental problems give almost no warning before they become serious. Here's what routine care catches that nothing else does:

  • Cavities forming between teeth that don't show up until they're on an X-ray
  • Early gum disease, which is painless at first but silently destroys the bone that holds your teeth in place
  • Oral cancer, which is highly treatable when caught early and rarely causes symptoms until it's advanced
  • Cracked or worn teeth from grinding that get worse with every passing month
  • Old fillings that are breaking down and letting new decay form underneath them

A cavity caught today is a filling. Left a year, it's a root canal. Left longer, it's an extraction. Every checkup is a chance to keep you on the right side of that.

How Often Should You See the Dentist

For most people, every six months is the right cadence. But the frequency that makes sense for you depends on your history and what we find at each visit.

Here's a general guide:

  • Every six months: most adults and children with healthy gums and a low risk of decay
  • Every three to four months: patients managing gum disease, whether active or in remission
  • Every three to four months: patients with diabetes, dry mouth, or taking medications that affect oral health
  • Every six months from the first tooth: children benefit from early, consistent care that builds good habits and catches development issues while there's still time to act

Seniors should keep coming in even with dentures or implants. Gum health, oral cancer screening, and any remaining natural teeth all need monitoring as we age.

If you're not sure what's right for you, we'll figure it out together at your first visit.

What Your Checkup Includes

Oral Examination

A thorough review of every tooth, your gum tissue, bite, and soft tissues of the mouth. This is where we find decay, early gum disease, signs of grinding, and anything else that needs attention.

Professional Cleaning

Removal of plaque and tartar from all tooth surfaces, including along and below the gumline. Finished with a polish to remove surface staining and leave teeth smooth and clean.

Digital X-Rays

Images that reveal what's happening between and beneath the teeth. Decay, bone levels, changes under old fillings. Things that are completely invisible during a clinical exam but treatable when found early.

Intraoral Photos

High-resolution photos taken inside your mouth so you can see exactly what we're looking at. There's no better way to understand your own oral health than to see it for yourself.

Oral Cancer Screening

A visual and physical check of the mouth, tongue, throat, and surrounding tissue at every visit. Oral cancer is one of the most treatable cancers when caught early. It's also one of the least symptomatic. This screening takes a few minutes and matters.

Fluoride Treatment

A quick application after your cleaning that strengthens enamel and helps protect against decay. Useful for patients of all ages, especially those prone to cavities or with sensitive teeth.

Personalized Home Care Advice

At the end of every visit, we'll tell you what we found, what to watch for, and what you can do differently at home. Specific to you, not a generic handout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you see my whole family at the same visit?

Yes. Let us know when you book and we'll coordinate times so the whole household gets taken care of in one trip.

What if I'm nervous?

Tell us when you call. Our team takes that seriously and works at your pace. We explain everything before it happens and never rush through an appointment. Oral sedation is available for patients who need it.

How long does a checkup take?

Most routine appointments run between 45 minutes and an hour. If it's been a while since your last visit, the cleaning may take a bit longer. We'll give you a realistic estimate when you book.

What happens if you find a cavity?

We show you where it is on the X-ray or photo, explain how advanced it is, and walk you through your options. For most small cavities, a filling is all that's needed. We review the cost and your coverage before anything is scheduled. Nothing happens without your agreement.

My teeth feel fine. Do I still need to come in?

Yes. Feeling fine is not the same as being fine. Most of the problems we catch at checkups, cavities between teeth, early gum disease, the beginning of bone loss, have no symptoms at all until they've already done real damage.

Do I need X-rays at every visit?

Not necessarily. How often depends on your history and what we observe during the exam. For most adults, once a year is appropriate. We follow evidence-based guidelines and won't recommend X-rays more often than needed.

What's the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?

A regular cleaning addresses the surfaces of the teeth at and above the gumline. A deep cleaning goes below the gumline to remove tartar from the root surfaces of teeth. It's recommended when gum disease has progressed beyond what a routine cleaning can reach. We'll only suggest it if the exam shows it's genuinely needed.

Will a cleaning hurt?

For most patients, no. If your gums are inflamed or there's significant buildup, you may feel some sensitivity along the gumline. We work at your pace and check in throughout. If anything is uncomfortable, tell us and we'll adjust.

What if I haven't been to the dentist in years?

Come in. That's the most important step. We'll assess where things stand, explain what we find, and put together a realistic plan to get your health back on track. There's no lecture, no judgment. Just a clear picture of where you are and how we get you where you want to be.

How often do I need a checkup and cleaning?

Every six months for most people. If you have a history of gum disease or are at higher risk of decay, we may recommend every three to four months. We'll tell you what makes sense for your situation after your first exam.
